MERCEDES-BENZ F 015 LUXURY IN MOTION – CAR OF THE FUTURE

Every year, Las Vegas hosts the CES international exhibition of consumer electronics, where many auto manufacturers bring their most innovative developments. Among them is the company Mercedes-Benz. This year Germans decided to surprise the audience with the F015 Luxury in Motion concept car. Mercedes-Benz presents its new product as the “harbinger of a mobile revolution,” designed for the years when time and space in large cities will be truly a great luxury.

Specialists from all Mercedes divisions were involved in the creation of the prototype. First of all, they developed the scenario “City of the Future 2030+” with many features of the future “mobile lifestyle”, which will be characterized by an acute shortage of time and free space. Autonomous cars, such as the F015 Luxury in Motion, will make their contribution to solving this problem. F015 is Mercedes’s response to a rapidly changing world. By 2030, the number of cities with a population of over 10 million inhabitants will increase from 30 to 40.

“Personal space has become the only truly worthwhile thing in the 21st century,” – said Dieter Zetsche, chairman of Daimler AG and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, – “Mercedes cars with autopilot should offer exactly that. It was due to F015 that this revolutionary idea first became tangible.”

«THE HARBINGER OF A MOBILE REVOLUTION» FROM MERCEDES-BENZ

The four-seater novelty is 5.22 m long, 2.02 m wide, 1.52 m high, and its wheelbase is 3.61 m. Representatives of the company specifically note the underlying Smart Body Structure, due to which the body weight of the prototype is 40 % less than in most modern production cars. To achieve such a reduction in curb weight, German engineers used carbon, high-strength steel and light alloys.

Offering maximum interior space, the F 015 Luxury in Motion takes comfort and luxury to new heights. All four doors swing open 90 degrees.

The interior is trimmed with leather, wood and glass. The seats swivel around their axis, allowing passengers to sit facing each other.

An interesting feature of F 015 will be the constant exchange of data between the car, passengers and the outside world. This is facilitated by 6 screens harmoniously integrated into the instrument panel, rear and side panels.

Passengers can interact with them through gestures, touches, and even glances. Due to stereo cameras and radars, the car fully controls the environment and is capable of fully autonomous movement. A person, however, can take control at any time.

The list of technologies applied in F 015 is almost endless. For example, all-round cameras project a landscape image onto the surrounding walls, making the journey unforgettable.

At the same time, Daimler also thinks about harmonizing the landscape of cities: cars equipped with an autopilot in case of their mass distribution would eliminate the need to install road signs and reduce the danger to pedestrians to zero.

According to Dieter Zetsche, F 015 represents a completely new relationship between cars and people. A car becomes a capsule, perhaps even a refuge, allowing you to work comfortably, negotiate or just mess around.

Or, for example, it provides genuine mobility for people with disabilities. As usual, when creating the Mercedes-Benz F 015 high-strength steel, aluminum, composite materials, including carbon fiber, were used. The length of the latter is 5220 mm, which is 254 mm longer than the S-class.

Width 2017 mm (101 mm more), height 1524 mm (33 mm more), base 3 609 mm. Obviously, F 015 is ready to offer more interior space than anyone in the luxury car segment.
